Creating Sustainable Solutions

In Conjunction with World Wildlife Fund, The Recycling Partnership & Closed Loop Partners, The Coca-Cola Company, Keurig Dr Pepper and PepsiCo are carefully designing plastic bottles that are made to be remade into new bottles and not end up in oceans, rivers and beaches. These companies, which are represented in the Illinois Beverage Association, are committed to making 100% recyclable bottles and want Every Bottle Back.

Our goal is to improve community recycling infrastructure and access, measuring and tracking our progress in using less new plastic and increasing consumer awareness surrounding our recyclable plastic bottles.

The Illinois Beverage Association is committed to working alongside America’s leading beverage companies and environmental and sustainability partners on this initiative to preserve our environment and Illinois’ natural resources, such as the Illinois River.

Promoting Balanced Lifestyles

America’s beverage companies – The Coca-Cola Company, Keurig Dr Pepper and PepsiCo – are working together to spearhead multiple initiatives that help consumers reduce the beverage calories from sugar in the family diet. IBA works in partnership with the American Beverage Association to help Illinoisans find a balanced lifestyle in three ways:

  • Balance Calories Initiative. Our goal is to cut sugar in the American diet and reduce beverage calories by an additional 20% per person by 2025.

  • Reducing Sugar. Beverage companies represented in the Illinois Beverage Association are introducing more choices by offering more products with less sugar or no sugar at all.

  • More Healthy Choices. We are supporting Illinois communities by bringing more choices and less sugar to neighborhoods where obesity is a tough, community-wide challenge.

Protecting Consumer Choices

Partnerships with the beverage industry to increase consumer awareness have proven far more effective in improving public health without destroying jobs, hurting small business or increasing costs on working families. Yet, more than 40 discriminatory taxes on our products have been proposed and rejected across the country.

As we saw in Illinois with Cook County’s unfair beverage tax, outrage from Cook County residents and businesses was overwhelming. Illinois Beverage Association’s members helped Cook County become the first local unit of government in the country to repeal an existing beverage tax.
