Happy Memorial Day from the Illinois Beverage Association

Annual Summer Kickoff Provides Opportunity to Responsibly Celebrate Sacrifice of Servicemen and Women Who Fell Protecting Our Nation

(ILLINOIS – May 29th, 2023) – The Illinois Beverage Association (IBA) honors the servicemen and women who have lost their lives protecting our nation. Memorial Day began in 1868 in the aftermath of the Civil War, with the first ceremony held at Arlington National Cemetery. Today, it is an annual tradition for all Americans to gather with loved ones and celebrate our freedoms that have been secured by those fallen heroes.

“The IBA wishes everyone a happy and safe Memorial Day, a date allowing Americans to gather in honor of those who have fallen in service to our country while responsibility celebrating with friends and family,” said Executive Director Rob Nash. “This holiday is the perfect occasion to celebrate responsibly with the non-alcoholic beverage of their choice at a barbeque, trip to the beach or other social event to celebrate the sacrifices made to protect our country.”

There are many ways to honor and celebrate Memorial Day, including:

  • Thank a veteran. Many have family or friends who have served or are currently serving our country. Take a moment to thank them.
  • Visit a national monument. Illinois has multiple national monuments and sites that are worth a visit on Memorial Day.
  • Go to a parade. Many communities host Memorial Day parades to honor their local serve members. These are a family favorite and a great way to enjoy the summer weather while also showing your appreciation.
  • Get crafty at your weekend barbecue with the red, white and blue themed non-alcoholic beverages that are fun for the entire family.
