Illinois Beverage Association Salutes PepsiCo & COVID-19 Response Efforts Supporting Communities of Color

Initiative Provides $735K in Local Economic and Medical Aid

CHICAGO, ILThe Illinois Beverage Association (IBA) salutes member company PepsiCo and its philanthropic arm, The PepsiCo Foundation, who recently launched a nationwide COVID-19 relief and response effort. This initiative will specifically address outbreaks impacts to the African American and Latino communities while supporting immediate and long-term recovery efforts for these communities. A total of $735,000 of the nationwide funding will be distributed in the Chicago area.

“The COVID-19 outbreak has had a devastating, disproportionate impact on African American and Latinx communities, and this initiative will provide some relief and support for these hard-hit communities,”
said Rob Nash, Executive Director of the Illinois Beverage Association, the leading advocate for non-alcoholic beverages in Illinois. “The wide-ranging effect of this initiative will help assist our local communities during these difficult times.”

PepsiCo has long-standing relationship with the organizations, with the COVID-19 related funding addressing the following:

$500k to the Chicago Community Trust, disbursed to several communities including Auburn Gresham, Brighton Park and the south and west suburbs and supporting shelter, food, health, food insecurity and emergency cash relief

$135k to UnidosUS, supporting Mujeres Latinas en Accion, Erie Neighborhood House and the Northwest Side Housing Center while providing food for seniors and families, benefit filing assistance, technology for education and transition assistance.

$100k to the Chicago Chapter of the National Urban League, who currently serves as a Grant Administrator for Chicago’s Microbusiness Recovery Grant Program. The Chapter has launched a COVID-19 Community Help Center assisting small business owners, homeowners, job seekers, students and families and will convene a virtual summit to address the impacts of the pandemic.
