Beverage Industry Celebrates ‘America Recycles Week’ By Emphasizing Cross-Industry Effort to Improve Recycling
Industry’s Every Bottle Back program demonstrates impact of public-private partnerships in reducing reliance on new plastics
(CHICAGO, IL – November 15) Today kicks off “America Recycles Week”, during which the non-alcoholic beverage industry is promoting its significant efforts in recycling through its groundbreaking Every Bottle Back program, emphasizing the importance of protecting our environment and natural resources year-round. To date, the industry’s Every Bottle Back program has led to nearly $13 million in investments in 11 communities nationwide to help over 300,000 households recycle nearly 693 million more pounds of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) plastic.
“The Illinois Beverage Association is committed to working alongside America’s leading beverage companies and environmental and sustainability partners to preserve our environment and natural resources both statewide,” said Rob Nash, Executive Director of the IBA. “Those who live and work in cities and towns throughout Illinois share the goal of clean, healthy, and beautiful communities and I am proud our industry is doing its part to keep it that way.”
In 2019, Every Bottle Back was launched by American Beverage, The Coca-Cola Company, Keurig Dr Pepper, and PepsiCo with the aim of reducing the industry’s plastic footprint by improving the design and collection of the industry’s plastic bottles. Joined by environmental and sustainability leaders in World Wildlife Fund, The Recycling Partnership & Closed Loop Partners, the initiative seeks to decrease the industry’s reliance on new plastic and promote innovative, sustainable solutions.
